Couch to 5K

Victoria Park has a long history of success on the track, on the roads and on cross country and we hope to continue that but if you’ve found your way to this page, you’re looking to take up running as a hobby, lose a little weight or just get a bit fitter.

You’ve come to the right place!

If you haven’t any experience of running or your fitness isn’t what it once was, taking it up can seem like a daunting prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit.

With the help of our jog leaders, our Couch to 5K program will help you steadily work up towards running 5K in just 9 to 10 weeks.

Couch to 5K is a running plan for absolute beginners.  Ideally it involves 2 guided runs a week with the weekly schedule changing over the length of the course.

Our next block of C25K begins on Thursday the 9th of May at 7pm.  We'll meet everyone within the reception at Scotstoun Stadium.

One of the biggest challenges a new runner faces is not knowing how or where to start.  More often than not when trying to get into exercise, we can do too much, feel defeated and give up when we're just getting started.

Couch to 5K works because it starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina.

Week 1 involves running for just a minute at a time, creating realistic expectations and making the challenge feel achievable right from the start.

Couch to 5K is for everyone. Whether you've never run before or if you just want to get more active, Couch to 5K is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier.

If you have any health concerns about beginning an exercise regime like Couch to 5K, make an appointment to see your GP and discuss it with them first.

If you’re fit enough to start the program, think of the benefits from getting into running.  For starters, it's an easy way of improving your physical health.

Running requires little equipment, but a good pair of running shoes that suit your foot type may help improve comfort.

Running regularly will improve the health of your heart and lungs. It can also help you lose weight, especially if combined with a healthy diet.

There's evidence it may help increase bone density in some people, which can help protect against bone diseases like osteoporosis.

There are also mental benefits of running. Taking on the challenge of Couch to 5K can help boost your confidence and self-belief, as you prove to yourself that you can set yourself a target and achieve a goal.

Running regularly can also be a great stress reliever and has even been shown to combat depression.

Our jog leaders have the experience and determination to guide you through to your first 5k.  They have no expectations of your fitness or ability and welcome the challenge to help you achieve your goals.

If you decide you want to join us, all you need do is come down to Scotstoun on any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday for a 7pm start.

The jog leaders will be waiting within the reception at Scotstoun Stadium.

The first month is free and if you decide to join after that then the cost is only £25 a year.
