Christmas Road Race 2017

This is just a reminder that Victoria Park will be hosting our Christmas Handicap Race on Sunday the 17th of December. If you would like to take part, you should meet on the Club Deck at Scotstoun Stadium prior to 12pm in good time for a 12.30pm start.

We're hoping for a large turnout on the day with competitors aged from 9 to Masters. It's a special event and it's not just for the endurance Athletes.Christmas Road Race

Competitors should arrive bearing a gift for the Lucky Dip. Value in the region of £7 - £8. e.g. Selection boxes/sweets/chocolates for the younger athletes and Bottle of Wine/Box of Biscuits, etc for the adults.

Competitors and their siblings can only collect a present from the lucky dip if they donate a gift on the day.

The event is a handicap race, with the slowest athletes and those not familiar with the distance starting first.

The distances for the event will be 2 miles for the juniors and the 3 and a quarter mile MacAndrew Course for the seniors.

Parents will be most welcome and can either join the juniors on their run or assist with stewarding the course.

It's always a fun day with refreshments available on the Club Deck.

Hope to see you there.

Isobel Dunkeld

Sad news received this week of the death of one of our life members, Isobel Dunkeld.  She fell a few weeks ago and broke her hip, the operation had gone well but a few complications came along and she passed away peacefully on Saturday the 21st of October.

Isobel was a committee member at Maryhill Ladies AC until the club changed its name to Glasgow AC in 1975 when Isobel became the first Vice President of the club.  The club was involved in the UKWAL and Isobel ran the ‘tuck’ shop at Scotstoun, arranged fund raisers, organised travel and accommodation for UKWAL meetings and lots of admin support.  Her husband Tom who pre-deceased her will be remembered as a coach and starter.  They both got involved with Maryhill Ladies when their daughter Eileen joined the club.

In later years Isobel got involved with Scottishathletics Championships, typing the results and then managing all the photocopying of track sheets, field cards and results before we moved into the age of technology when photocopying was no longer required.   She ‘ruled’ her area but provided dedicated service to athletics for many years and she will be well remembered.

She was aged 94 when she passed away although she could often be seen walking her dog ‘Megan’ in Kelvingrove Park.

Her funeral will take place at 2.30pm on Friday the 27th of October at Maryhill Crematorium, Glasgow.
