Glasgow Life stated today, their intention of reopening the outside track at Scotstoun Stadium on Monday the 17th of August.
We can’t be sure what the access to the track will look like as the Government guidelines are still developing.
We do know that there will still be restrictions on the size of coaching groups and there will still be social distancing measures in place.
Currently in Scotland, one coach can only train with athletes from two other households but in England one coach can train with 5 athletes.
Until we know what these restrictions will be in August, we can’t finalise our plans.
Initially, we may have to limit athletes who’re not in an event group to one session per week. We’re investigating the possibility of having two sessions per evening, 6.05 till 7.20 and 7.30 till 8.45pm from Monday till Friday and if coaches are available, adding Saturday and Sunday morning sessions.
We do have the facility within our LoveAdmin system to create coaching groups which would allow our members to book for example, “Tuesday night U13-Early” or “Wednesday night U11-Late”. The number of places available for booking each evening would depend on the restrictions that are still in place and the number of coaches available.
If we are to use the booking system, all members will be notified at the same time.
On the competition front, Scottish Athletics are hoping to have a limited return to action in August and September. While there is unlikely to be a national championship, there is likely to be a national open graded competition which will be held over different dates and venues.
It’s a great disappointment to me and all of the coaches and committee at the club that we’ve lost most of the season, but the reward will be to see everyone safely through the current crisis.
We’ve waited a long time for this update and it’s very welcome.
