I have pulled together a roundup of endurance running by our club athletes from the last few weeks. Apologies if I have missed anyone.
The London Marathon on Sunday 23rd April saw Mark Ashby (3.08.50) running his 23rd consecutive London Marathon. He was closely followed by Abbey McGhee (3.10.56) and Alex Potter (3.14.17)
Lesley Pirie (2.47.48) was first female in the inaugural running of the Stirling marathon on Sunday 21st May, finishing almost 10 minutes ahead of the second placed female. James Stewart (2.40.26) ran an excellent race finishing in 5th overall and Donna Finlayson (3.33.46) also posted a good time.
The Monklands Half Marathon on Sunday 14th May saw a good turn out from the club. James Stewart finished 2nd in 76.38 (PB). Gerry Craig was 8th in 83.58, Duncan Thomson 16th in 87.52 and Alex Potter 18th in 88.38
Lewis Priest (U17) ran 34.47 (PB) to finish 14th in the Dumbarton 10k on 11th May with Gordon Murray (V60) running 47.24 to finish 166th. The previous week on 3rd May, Gordon ran the Helensburgh 10k in 46.51 and on the same evening, further down the coast, Emma Kay ran 44.12 (15th female) at the Troon 10k
Congratulations to Beth Potter on qualifying for the 2017 World Championships after winning the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs (inc British Championships) in 32.04.63 on Saturday 20th May. Suzanne Gilmour (Vet 40) ran 38.01 at Crownpoint in the BMC / GAA Regional Races (Inc Scottish 10,000m Championships) on Friday 28th April
The Scottish 5k Road Championship took place on Friday 5th May in Edinburgh in very windy conditions. Marc Austin (14.45) and Gillian Black (17.07) both came away with medals. Marc finished 3rd male and Gillian was 3rd female. Kieron Rafferty (15.42) and Rhian Dawes (18.19) both placed well in a high quality field.
The club always has a healthy turn out at our local weekly parkrun in Victoria Park and the pick of the bunch from the last few weeks is Finlay Waters who ran 18.52 on 22nd April breaking the “Aged 10” course record. Elsewhere, Marc Austin was 1st finisher at Strathclyde Park in 15.23 on 6th May. It is good to see our runners taking advantage of the geographical spread of parkrun with Saul McGlennan (U13) being the most adventurous recently, running 20.44 at Harrow on 15th April.
