The club’s endurance runners have run and competed at various distances from 5k to marathon in the last few weeks and I have listed below a number of the notable performances. Apologies if I have missed anyone.
The London Marathon saw record breaking temperatures but 4 of our athletes successfully completed the course in the heat. First of the club’s finishers was Iain Dunn in 3 hours 54 seconds, closely followed by Michael Craig in 3 hours 7 minutes 50 seconds. Alex Potter ran 3 hours 54 minutes 59 seconds and David Orr, 5 hours 36 minutes 29 seconds.
Claire Thompson was 3rd female and 1st vet female at the Ballock to Clydebank half marathon in a time of 84 minutes 57 seconds on 25th March.
Claire Thomson ran 63.01 and was 5th vet female at the Tom Scott Memorial race at Strathclyde Park on 1st April. Tom Ord was 4th Vet 60 in a time of 68:22.
After competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2017 London World Championships, Beth Potter continued her impressive series of international appearances and competed for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast, Australia, running the 10,000m in 33.26 days after also competing in the Triathlon.
Max Milarvie placed 11th in his first 10k, running 32.10 at Port Erin, Isle of Man on 30th March. Sarah Potter was first female at the Wakefield Hospice 10k running a PB of 35.45 on 25th March and on 8th April was 4th female in 36.29 at the Jim Dingwall “Round the Houses” 10k at Grangemouth. On 10th March Anna Tait was 1st Female in the Jack Crawford Springburn Cup 10k at Bishopbriggs in a time of 37.09.
The last few weeks have seen VP-Glasgow athletes running at various parkrun locations from the Ayrshire coast to the Channel coast and the Gold coast, Australia. Notable performances included a good run from Becky Dunphy (1st Female and 6th overall) at Tollcross parkrun on 21st April whilst on the same day Louis Sharp (4th) and Ella Sharp (1st Female) both ran well at Troon. The 14th April saw Claire Thompson (1st Female) put in her fastest parkrun of the year at Pollok park. Also, on 14th April, Peter Jardine, who was down in Australia for the Commonwealth Games, ran the Main Beach parkrun. On 10th March, Peter was 3rd finisher at the Springburn parkrun.
