National Cross Country Championships

What a great effort from everyone connected with the Club who attended the National Cross Country Championships on Saturday the 22nd of February.

The weather was atrocious, with a howling wind and heavy rain/sleet and snow. The ground was like a bog and impossible in places to walk, never mind run.

The team managers, Suzanne Gilmour, Jim Harvie, Louise Singleton and Ralph Connolly had nothing but praise for the athletes who did their best in terrible conditions.

A lot of gratitute was expressed for Jim Harvie, who brought the tent and everyone who helped to set it up and eventually pack it away.

The highlight of the day was Fraser Gilmour finishing 2nd U15 boy and leading his teammates, Saul McGlennan (16th), Jake Speirs (38th) and Finlay Waters (42nd) to 2nd place out of 18 teams in that category.  Also running for the U15 boys was Ruaridh Allen (77th), Callum Patterson (99th) and Oscar Moogan Sharratt (127th).

Our U13 girls team of Scarlet Wilson (27th), Jessica Donnelly (66th), Isla Donnelly (74th) and Ruth Walsh (91st) finished in 13th place out of 19 teams.

We didn't have an U17 boys team but Christy McDermott finished in 37th place ahead of Gregory Gontor who finished in 86th place.

Our U20 women were also short of a team but Holly Little finished in 5th place, ahead of het clubmate Emma Gilmour who was 34th.

Our senior women's team of Steph Lawrie (26th), Suzanne Gilmour (29th), Rhian Dawes (78th), Grace Binnie (89th), Donna Finlayson (139th) and Ann Caven (288th) finished in 11th place out of 23 teams.

We didn't have a senior men's team but Graeme Laing (209th), Alex Potter (393rd) and Duncan Thomson (504th) flew the flag for the club.

Well done to everyone who took part, what a great effort and special thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.
